Start of a Sleeve

Hello?

Is anyone still reading this?

Even though I’ve been absent and post-less for a long time, I am still knitting.

For real!

I did take a break from the cardigan for a few weeks and finished a couple of presents for friends and family.  A pair of Jaywalkers for Gary and a white/green chullo for my co-worker Shelby.

I won’t be sharing any pictures for those projects. Probably because I just wanted to finish those presents as soon as possible, check them off my list and get back to the real work of cabling on the cardigan?

Also, I was afraid to edit and upload photos with the new computer we purchased a few weeks back.  It’s very fast for editing photos and has 2 beautiful wide screen monitors, but all the monitor settings were a bit off and took some time to adjust properly.  Everything was bursting with color, almost fluorescent!  I’m still not sure if the pictures are coming through the way I want them too?  I swear I’ve edited and uploaded these photos about 10 times already after seeing how wierd they look at work.

Help!

Now that I’ve picked up the cardigan again, I’ve been able to complete about 16″ of the body and start the first sleeve.

This is what the top side of the sleeve looks like (the braided cable will travel up the center of the sleeve and continue all the way up the shoulder):

The pattern suggests that you increase on the underside of the sleeve using your filler stitch, but I didn’t like how it was knitting up. The whole bottom half of the sleeve would have been a large expanse of 1×1 twisted rib *{knit through the back, purl} repeat from*.  It just seemed like too much filler and not enough cables?  Instead, I decided to increase in cables after charting everything out:

Hopefully, the underside of the sleeve won’t look too wonky once it is grafted onto the body?  I’ve worked up to row 34 on the chart or about 7″:

Hmmm…..

Once I make it past all the increases on the first sleeve, I’m going to get started on the Habu Kit 70 for my aunt. I was supposed to start it weeks ago, but was too scared to swatch.  Probably because a couple of amazing knitters mentioned that there were gauge problems and suggested working the pattern on smaller needles or making modifications to the pattern?

Are you excited about Christmas?

I’m still trying to get in the Christmas spirit, wondering if it’s too late for all that…

Of course we are still reading. I’ve been missing your posts terribly!!

I always have trouble getting into the Christmas spirit - it always seems Dec. is a bad time of year for me…. I adopted an angel off the Salvation Army tree, and it was fun buying for a child. Made me feel lighter. Maybe that’s an idea to get you in the spirit.

The cardigan is looking fantastic!

Still reading! Everyone is slow for updating because of the holidays. I can’t wait to see what everyone is holding back though :) Your cardigan is looking fantastic! The color & the stitch pattern is just stunning! Deffinately already a favorite. :)

i love the underside of that sleeve!!

Oh good - I can call off the search party ;).
Even though I have two children, I’m really not ‘into’ Christmas this year. Maybe it’s because the kids are still in school until the 22nd or because I’m not seeing my family this year but I’m a bit bummed. Hopefully I’ll get into the swing of things when our annual Xmas party happens this Saturday.
The sleeves look goooorgeous! My knitting hasn’t been very inspired lately - just sticking with several pairs of socks for gifts. I really should sink my teeth into something significant come January.

Yup, still reading! Your cardigan looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to see it finished.

I have been doing a bunch of Xmas knitting myself, even though I didn’t expect to be. I was overcome with the desire to use up a skein to make my mother a scarf. And then I had to make a bunch of knitted ornaments for me tree. Plus a couple things as gifts that were started a while back but not yet done. I guess I’m feeling the spirit, and the pressure!

Yes yes… we keep checking in on this page every day to see if you moved :D
Hope your eyes are adjusted to the new monitors!
The sleeve looks good, wish Mum could do something like that and gasp - DPNs!!!!!
Mum’s been secretive about Christmas… I wonder if we will get pressies again this year…

i love the cardi. i am going to start sleeves on mine today or maybe tomorrow. and i have missed your blog too. it is a big chore to keep a blog. sometimes i think it is almost ridiculous to write, shoot photos and not knowing if anyone actually reads the stuff. and i am an insecure blogger too because i don’t know the techniques. but i keep on blogging and knitting well knowing my knitting is much more pretty irl.

I’m still reading - and eagerly checking your progress… I can’t wait to see the finished product. It’s gorgeous!

Ah…at last I can comment again. Beautiful work! And I’m glad to see that you’re still there!

I am still here: eager to see the progress on your cable project.

It’s sometimes hard to get the spirit. I find finishing a few projects does a lot to improve my enjoyment of the season (and makes me want to start something else). The cable sweater is just gorgeous and getting more so each time I see it.

I’m here! I’m still reading!

The sleeves look great! I can’t wait to see the finished product!
